Crash optimization considering interdisciplinary structural requirements

This paper describes the possibilities of mathematical crash optimization and multidisciplinary optimization of vehicle structures. Goal is the generation of approximation models which are based on only few crash simulations. Thus, the mathematical crash optimization can be a practical tool during the development process.
After introducing the concepts of multidisciplinary optimization we specify the requirements for the optimization software and we give some realization ideas. Application examples are given for automotive parts and usually vehicle models. Beside the variation of the wall multiple thickness, the possibilities for shape optimization during the development process are outlined.
