- This SAE standard defines requirements for equipment and supplies to be used in measuring shot peening arc height and other surface enhancement processes. Guidelines for use of these items can be found in SAE J443 and SAE J2597.

- Corrected formatting errors in 3.2.5 and 3.3, eliminated requirement for conformance to ISO 10012 in 3.3.1 due to inapplicability, and deleted Figure 4 sub-size test strip gaging method 1 since it lacked the resolution and accuracy requirements. Added reference to ASTM A550 to describe No. 1 edge type. Replaced new Figure 2 which had dimension errors with same figure from revision 2017. Added notes about Almen’s patent to clarify stress levels on opposite faces.
