Abstract
Content

The concept of a Quality System’s approach to business has been employed successfully and sometimes not so successfully for several decades. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has been supplying standards that list the key elements/clauses and requirements for building and implementing Quality Systems for over 30 years. These standards are based on the relatively simple concepts of Total Quality Management (TQM), essential principals of management, and a “Process” approach. These standards have been revised several times over the years to make them more realistic and user friendly.

This course explains the basic concepts of TQM, Quality Management Systems and Customer Oriented Processes. The course explains the requirements outlined in the most recent (2015) revision of the ISO 9001 Standard, and the additional requirements of the new (as of 2016) automotive industry standard, IATF 16949. From there the course then lays out a road map for implementing an effective Quality System that complies with these requirements. Quality Audits to play an important role in the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of Quality Management Systems. The course prepares participants for Quality Audits from the standpoint of either and Auditee or Internal Auditor. Unsuccessful efforts at building a Quality System are usually due to a lack of clear understanding and vision which results in a difficult to follow system, this course helps to avoid those pitfalls.
