Abstract
The ever increasing concern over the contamination of ground water and the high cost of clean up from hydraulic fluid spills has resulted in the need to establish an approved biodegradable hydraulic fluid for use in mobile equipment and in particular turf care equipment.
This paper will review; the status of what is considered “Environmentally Friendly”, the establishing of a selection criteria, types of fluids investigated and the locating of potential sources. In addition, the testing and selection of an acceptable fluid will be discussed including continuing activity in this area.
