Study of Ethanol Blending Effects on Formation of Mixture Under Cold Start Conditions

In this study, cold startability of E85 was researched with a focus on the vaporization characteristics. Cold startability was tested with E85 of which Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) is equivalent to gasoline. The engine failed to start when the E85 was used. The vaporization simulation was conducted on the fuels. As a result, it was revealed that E85 vaporization is lower than gasoline even if RVP are the same. To enhance the fuel vaporization, increase of injection quantity and usage of a high RVP fuel were effective. To keep the same engine startability as the gasoline, need about 3 to 6 times fuel injection or 30-50 kPa higher RVP would be needed.

Detection of Unusual Right-Turn Driving Behavior of Oncoming Vehicle at Intersection

This paper proposes a method for detecting unusual right-turn driving behavior that a driver of an oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane at an intersection is going to execute from information that can be observed from the own vehicle for the purpose of preventing accidents caused by human error. The performance of the method evaluated with an experiment on a driving simulator is shown.

This paper describes a part of research of energy ITS promotion enterprise which aimed at CO2 reduction and energy saving with platoon driving which used the heavy-duty truck. The systems configuration which aimed at improvement in the high reliance to real practical use of a system and safety is described. It aims at keeping of safety and an effect by changing target control with the reliability of environment information or the data from sensors. Moreover, examination assuming failure of a sensor system or incorrect detection is shown. Furthermore, the result of the simulation verification about the effect of the redundant sensor system by sensor fusion is shown.

Optical fiber probing is one of the efficient and reliable measurement methods for gas-liquid two-phase flows. For practical measurement of fuel spray, we newly developed a Two-Tip Optical fiber Probe (T-TOP) and an Optical Fiber Probe micro-fabricated by femtosecond pulse laser (Fs-TOP). We demonstrate the simultaneous measurement of velocities and diameters of micro droplets using these probes; the results are compared with those obtained from the visualization of the droplets by using high-speed video cameras. In addition, we clarify the relation between the tip shape of Optical Fiber Probe (OFP) and its measurement accuracy.

For improving NOx conversion rate, the new concept SCR catalyst has been developed by focusing on adsorption capacity for NH3. In addition, as a diesel particulate filter (DPF) is combined with SCR, back-pressures and thermal durability were improved. Then, the oxidation capability of the oxidation catalyst and urea-injection pattern was optimized. As a result of above improvements, these aftertreatment systems could favorably reduce NOx and PM simultaneously in the JE05 test cycle.

Electrochemical reduction (ECR) method of diesel particulate matter (PM) and NOx has been developed. The experiments were conducted for a GDC honeycomb module having a porous solid oxide electrolyte. On the cathode, alkaline earth metal is coated for NOx storage. Due to the forced flow of oxygen ion from cathode to anode (oxygen pumping) simultaneous reductions of PM and NOx are performed by applying the voltage to both electrodes. The JC08 mode tests have been carried out using the partial-flow dilution tunnel system and the diesel engine of EUROIV compliant. The result shows that honeycomb module decreases NOx level from 0.395 to 0.102 g/km and PM level from 0.1025 to 0.0028 g/km.

It is necessary to measure strain distributions for the validating human FE model in terms of property of materials. However, there are few reports for proposal of measurement of strain distribution, and technique of field measurement of strain has not been established.In the present study, field-measurement technique of strain by using the image processing based on cross-correlation method was proposed. The technique was applied to measurement of strain distribution on a surface of soft tissue. And, feasibility of the technique to the measurement of strain distribution was confirmed.

Influence of Microstructure Strengthening on Shape-Freezing Property of Press Forming for High Tensile Strength Steel Sheet

The purpose of this study is an experimental proof of the form forming method's utility on the press working. In particular, we had much attention to an influence of microstructure strengthening of steel sheet on the form forming method and a comparison to draw forming method. The division of form forming process resulted in high accuracy on a shape freezing property of formed specimen. Moreover, the process division effectively decreased the working load. The shape freezing property of form forming was better than that of the draw forming. On the second form forming process in two steps forming, the principal forming mechanism was the push bending which was the fundamental role on the form forming process. On the draw forming, the unbending occurred. Because of the unbending, the shape freezing property became worse and the working load increased. The difference of forming mechanisms between the form forming method and the draw forming method could be evaluated by the residual stress and the hardness in the press worked products. Evaluation of Readability on Text Typography for Automobile Multi Information Display

To design a legible text on a multi information display (MID), readability of the text typography, such as character style, character distance and line space were examined by a reading task. The sentence of the reading object on the display was indicated intermittently, that was simulated driver's behavior to watch the MID while driving, and the time-length to read was measured. After the experiment, subjective comparative evaluation of impression to text typography was performed. The readability of a contextual sentence and meaningless texts were compared, and an influence of different text typography on the readability was examined.
