This SAE Recommended Practice covers the design and application of a 120 VAC single phase engine based auxiliary power unit or GENSET. This document is intended to provide design direction for the single phase nominal 120 VAC as it interfaces within the truck 12 VDC battery and electrical architecture providing power to truck sleeper cab hotel loads so that they may operate with the main propulsion engine turned off.

Drivetrain Standards Committee
This specification provides dimensional standards for crimp type contact wire barrel design and is a replacement for MS3190. Some wire barrel designs may exist in AS39029 but are not considered approved for future use, therefore, will not appear in this specification. The crimp barrel sizes listed in this document have been standardized in AS39029 and AS22520 specifications, tools and contacts are available to support these listed sizes. These crimp barrel requirements shall be used for any contact, regardless of whether it is a standard or non-standard contact configuration. The specification lists details for three types of wire barrels: A, B, and C. Wire barrel type A is not recommended for new design. Table 4 lists each AS39029 detail sheet wire barrel type.

This material type has resistance to hot air, but generally has poor resistance to fuels and lubricants, but usage is not limited to such applications. Each application should be considered separately. This material type has a typical service temperature range of -85 to 500 °F (-65 to 260 °C). The operating temperature range of the material is a general temperature range, but the presence of particular fluids and design parameters may modify this range. Recommendations on the material selection are based on available technical data and are offered as suggestions only. Each user should make his own tests to determine the suitability for his own particular use.

The function of a multifunctional display (MFD) system is to provide the crew access to a variety of data, or combinations of data, used to fly the aircraft, to navigate, to communicate, and to manage aircraft systems. MFDs may also display primary flight information (PFI) as needed to insure continuity of operations. This document sets forth design and operational recommendations concerning the human factors considerations for MFD systems. The MFD system may contain one or more electronic display devices capable of presenting data in several possible formats. MFDs are designed to depict PFI, navigation, communication, aircraft state, aircraft system management, weather, traffic, and/or other information used by the flight crew for command and control of the aircraft. The information displayed may be combined to make an integrated display or one set of data may simply replace another. The objective of this ARP is to provide a set of user-centered design guidelines for the implementation of data driven electronic aeronautical charts, which dynamically create charts from a database of individual elements. The data driven chart is intended to provide information required to navigate, but it is not intended to supplant the aircraft’s primary navigation display. These guidelines seek to provide a balance between standardization of equipment with similar intended functions and individual manufacturer innovation. This ARP provides guidelines for the display of an electronic chart that can replace existing paper. This document addresses what information is required, when it is required, and how it should be displayed and controlled. This document does not include all the detailed specifications required to generate an electronic aeronautical chart. This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies minimum operation performance requirements for helicopter hoists. This document covers criteria for hoist systems that are intended for use on helicopter platforms for a variety of missions, including but not limited to, search and rescue (SAR) operations, fire control/support, offshore windfarm maintenance, transferring harbor pilots, and power line maintenance. Helicopter hoist minimum performance characteristics are specified for standard and other environmental conditions for the purpose of product qualification. Compliance with this standard is not considered approval for installation on any aircraft.

The application of real-time models and modeling methodologies are discussed. The modeling methodologies addressed in this AIR concentrate on the aerothermal portion of the gas turbine propulsion system. Characteristics of the models, the various algorithms used in them, and system integration issues are also reviewed. In addition, example cases of digital models in source code are provided for several methodologies.

SAE/USCAR-46 defines test methods and outputs for engine oil pump bench testing. Performance and durability testing are the primary focus of this standard. This is written to specifically address testing of electronically controlled variable displacement pumps but can be adapted to mechanically controlled pumps and other pump technologies as needed. This standard outlines critical inputs and outputs in order to perform the testing and report results, but does not specifically set the acceptance standards or pass/fail criteria. This Aerospace Information Report (AIR) reviews the factors to be considered in determining the location and arrangement for auxiliary power unit (APU) installations for airborne applications and reviews requirements for flight suitability. As treated in this discussion, the APU normally includes a power section (or engine), a starting system, an electronic control unit (ECU), a gearbox with accessory mounting pads, and an oil cooling system. The accessories that are driven by the APU, such as CSD's (constant speed drives), alternating current (AC) generators, hydraulic pumps, or air compressors, are not covered here except insofar as they make demands on the APU. This report is intended to identify the various existing technologies used for a fuel level sensing system. In addition to sensing technologies, it describes the basic architecture of fuel level sensing systems and their association with fuel gauging system to increase integrity of fuel measurement and management. As the fuel level sensing system is generally based on electrical components within fuel tanks, a specific focus is made on fuel tank explosion safety protection. An overview of the capacitive fuel gauging operation can be found in AIR5691.
AE-5A Aerospace Fuel, Inerting and Lubrication Sys Committee
This SAE Aerospace Recommend Practice (ARP) is intended to cover the external lights on fixed wing aircraft for illuminating the wing leading edge and engine nacelles and the upper surfaces of the wing. The addition of an ice detection system should be implemented when the areas to inspect are not visible from the aircraft cockpit. It is not intended that this recommended practice require the use of any particular light source such as halogen, LED, or other specific design of lamp.
