Recommended system design to prevent air effects and maintenance procedures to prevent and remove air are provided. Nitrogen leakage from accumulators is also a source of gas in hydraulic systems and may compose a portion of the “air” in the hydraulic system. The term “air” in this report does not differentiate between a gas composed strictly of normal atmospheric air or one that includes a mixture of additional nitrogen as well. The discussions of the report apply equally with any proportions of atmospheric air and nitrogen in the system

This attenuation is termed lateral attenuation and is in excess of the attenuation from wave divergence and atmospheric absorption. This SAE Recommended Practice defines the boundary line for establishing dimensional compatibility between air disc brake calipers and 22.5 x 8.25 inch disc wheels, including bent valve stems on steel wheels and manufacturer recommended valve stems on aluminum wheels. The line establishes the minimum wheel with valve stem envelope to allow interchangeability. The line does not accommodate customer-specific wheels (such as OEM-specific stylized wheels) or customer-specific brakes. This document addresses dimensional characteristics only and makes no reference to the performance, operational dynamic deflections or heat dissipation of the system. It is up to the system integrator to ensure sufficient clearance exists between the caliper, wheel and valve stem to provide safe operating conditions. The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to provide guidelines for selection of transducers, data acquisition systems, and other instrumentation as well as analysis methods to help ensure proper measurement and evaluation of acoustic impulses in automobiles. While this Recommended Practice focuses on automotive inflatable devices, such as, frontal airbag systems, pretensioners, inflatable curtains, side airbags, etc., it can be used for measurement of other impulsive sounds in a vehicle if needed. The objective is to achieve uniformity in instrumentation practice and reporting of test measurements. Use of this recommended practice should provide a basis for meaningful comparisons of test results from different sources. This recommended practice specifies procedures for static measurement of acoustic impulses, but due to the much more complicated nature of crash testing, does not specify procedures for measuring impulses in vehicles during crash tests

The intent of the specification is to present a functional set of requirements which define the user and hardware interfaces while providing sufficient capability to meet the misfire patterns for compliance demonstration and engineering development. Throughout this requirement, any reference to “ignition or injector control signal” is used interchangeably to infer that the effected spark ignition engine’s ignition control signal or the compression ignition engine’s injector control signal is interrupted, timing phased, or directly passed by the misfire generator. For spark ignition engines, the misfire generator behaves as a spark-defeat device which induces misfires by inhibiting normal ignition coil discharge. It does so by monitoring the vehicle’s ignition timing signals and suspends ignition coil saturation for selected cylinder firing events. The misfire generator will thereby induce engine misfire in spark ignited gasoline internal combustion engines; including rotary engines

This Standard includes analytical and physical test procedures to evaluate refrigerant concentration inside the passenger compartment. In the early phases of vehicle evaluation, usage of the analytical approach may be sufficient without performing physical tests. The physical test procedure involves releasing refrigerant from an external source to a location adjacent to the evaporator core (inside the HVAC module). An apparatus is used to provide a repeatable, calibrated leak rate. If the system has multiple evaporators, leakage could be simulated at any of the evaporator locations. This standard gives detail information on the techniques for measuring R-744 (CO2) and R-1234yf (HFO-1234yf), but the general techniques described here can be used for other refrigerants as well
