In this paper, the concept, design and implementation of a stability augmentation system for coaxial ultralight helicopters is presented. For an exemplary realization, the CoAX 2D ultralight helicopter is used. It is a 2-seated helicopter with two teetering mainrotors in a coaxial configuration with a maximum take-off mass of 450kg developed by edm aerotec. The description of the stability augmentation system covers the general design approach, sensors, actuators, the flight control computer, control algorithms, and the handling of malfunctions. Results of first flight test in a movable frame illustrate the proof of concept.
