Authors Abstract
Content
SAE has several fatigue test specification for wheels. These specifications are based on the radial and cornering loads a wheel receives during road usage. The science and methodology of the SAE specifications are consistent. This paper will document all the formulas, test data, and developments used in the specifications and how factors were adjusted for various applications. The paper will also summarize in one place the SAE papers and other sources used for the basic fatigue curve creations. Lastly, the paper will discuss the future of fatigue testing for wheels with the biaxial test specification based on the vehicle durability testing and pre-damage wheels for fatigue testing to allow both impact and fatigue damage to interact.
