The use of automated manufacturing methods in the production of advanced composites for aerospace applications has gained popularity in recent years. Filament winding is the composite automated manufacturing method which has been most widely accepted to date. This trend has resulted in the development of complex formulated resin matrix systems for wet filament winding and preimpregnated roving which give cured composite performance properties equivalent to State-of-the-Art 350°F prepreg systems. Hysol has recently developed and evaluated EA9101, a filament winding resin matrix which can be applied by wet winding at 180 F or as preimpregnated roving. EA9101 compares very favorably with State-of-the-Art 350 F prepreg systems which are based on ARALDITE MY 720 and HT 976.
