Abstract
Content

The dynamic and aeroelastic design approach for the development of the Sikorsky CH-53K helicopter is presented. Dynamic design features and design requirements are discussed, as well as the resulting need to utilize advanced analytical tools. Correlation of the aeroelastic analytical tool of choice, RCAS, with flight test data and model scale test data is presented. An overview of the application of the correlated analytical tools to the CH-53K aircraft for generation of requirements and for design support is provided. The dynamic design approach enabled the identification and solution of potential dynamic problems in the preliminary design phase rather than later in the development process when design changes would have had greater impact on cost and schedule.
