The “run it until it breaks” approach to maintenance is becoming increasingly unacceptable. Implementation of just-in-time and the economic requirements for more efficient use of labor and machinery are some of the factors encouraging management to give more than lip-service to preventive maintenance.
A test unit developed to speed diagnosis of problems in hydraulic systems has proved to be a useful tool for predicting many failures, enabling repairs to be scheduled.
