The Goodrich Corporation developed a dual-use health and usage management system (HUMS) to support vehicle health monitoring and diagnostics. From the outset, Goodrich incorporated a variety of elements in the design of its HUMS to allow inter-service and intra-service interoperability. Key elements to interoperability include common hardware and software, data-driven reconfigurability, standardized data interchange formats, and open interfaces. Though the system has been shown to be highly interoperable, global interoperability is limited by a variety of factors, including non-standard customer business rules and access to historical information as well as platform-specific configuration data.
