The Analytical Approach to Estimating the Effectiveness of Aerial Weapons Systems

Since 1955 the Ballistic Research Laboratories have been engaged in various phases of the helicopter weaponization program. We have attempted to improve both the mathematical models used to evaluate the effectiveness of weapons and weapon systems and the inputs required. By careful attention to detailed inputs and mathematical models, decision makers can be provided useful information by the use of such studies. Lack of input data regarding operational employment and crew capability are more significant limitations on system effectiveness analyses than lack of sophistication in mathematical modeling techniques.
