ACHIEVING HUMS BENEFITS IN THE MILITARY ENVIRONMENT – HUMS DEVELOPMENTS ON THE CH-146 GRIFFON FLEET

The Canadian Forces continue to benefit from active management of the health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) installed on their fleet of nearly 100 CH-146 Griffon Helicopters. A formal Maintenance Credit Program was begun in 2001, following a detailed review of potential cost benefit opportunities and the development of a detailed Maintenance Credit Development Plan. In addition to the formal program, full utilization of the system has resulted in many day-to-day benefits being realized as a result of the pro-active use of the system. This paper will review the formal Maintenance Credit Development Program, the progress achieved to date, lessons learned, and a variety of other benefits achieved by the Forces through their proactive use of the system.
