This SAE Standard covers dimensions, performance parameters and nomenclature of a push-pull control cable used in inboard marine throttle and shift applications.
Rationale
The Marine Technical Committee, after reviewing the standard SAE J917, found that it did not cover all shift and throttle applications that are currently found on boats today. Therefore the committee determined that additional sizes, travel and mountings were needed to cover all possible applications. We considered even the snap-in cables found on Mercury and Bombardier (OMC) power trains, but considered them to be proprietary and not included in this change. In addition, the committee decided to include more performance information into the standard to assist engineers in determining what is necessary in their application.
The Marine Technical Committee develops and maintains SAE Standards, Recommended Practices and Information Reports for the development, production, application and testing of marine vehicles and equipment. The committee also maintains liaison with the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC), Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), International Council of Marine Industry Association (ICOMIA), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), United States Coast Guard (USCG), and other organizations as necessary. The subcommittees formed under the committee's direction include: Marine Engine Fuel Systems Marine Electrical Systems Participants in the SAE Marine Technical Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government and other interested parties.
* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
