Heated Seats Standards Committee
The scope of the SAE Heated Seat Committee is to develop a recommended practice to promote an acceptable operating condition for heated vehicle seats. The design guidelines are established in order to mitigate risk to the human skin when using heated seats. The guidelines may include the definition of maximum operating temperatures and durations, the location/visibility and type of indicators and/or telltales and written user warnings, the application of overheat exposure protection, a procedure to measure certain test temperatures and a procedure to disable heated seats for those individuals intolerant of heat.
