Scope
This SAE Standard provides a uniform method for determining rated and struck capacity for buckets used on excavators, mini-excavators, and backhoes as defined in SAE J1057 and equipped with hoe attachment. Calculations are based on the inside physical dimensions of the bucket only, without use of optional side cutters, spill guards, teeth, or other accessories and without regard to bucket action provided by any specific machine. This document does not cover shovel, clam, or dragline buckets described in SAE J67 or loader buckets described in SAE J742.

Issuing Committee
MTC SC5 is responsible for standards related to hydraulic excavators, as defined by ISO 6165. A hydraulic excavator is a self-propelled machine on crawlers, wheels, or legs, having an upper structure normally capable of a 360-degree swing with mounted equipment (primarily for excavating with a bucket) without moving the undercarriage during the work cycle.

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
