This document establishes minimum performance criteria and definition of terms for the towing interface between a towing vehicle and fifth wheel or gooseneck trailer at or below 13608 kg (30000 pounds) gross trailer weight. This establishes criteria for the hitch, tow vehicle attachment structure, trailer attachment structure, and coupler.
Rationale
This document is intended as a recommended practice for manufacturers of fifth wheel and/or gooseneck trailers at or below 13608 kg (30000 pounds) gross trailer weight and of tow vehicles and components necessary to tow these trailers. This document may be used as a guide to formulate regulations
The Trailer Committee develops and maintains SAE Standards, Recommended Practices and Information Reports applicable to trailers normally towed by conventional passenger cars, light duty commercial vehicles, light trucks and multi-purpose passenger vehicles. The Chairperson ensures the committee maintains liaison with groups such as the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), SAE-related committees and other organizations as necessary. The taskforces formed under the committee's direction include: Trailer - Gooseneck and 5th Wheel Task Force; Trailer Dynamics Task Force; Conventional Towing System up to 20,000 lbs Task Force; Trailer Terminology Task Force; Trailer Braking Standard Task Force Participants in the SAE Trailer Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government and other interested parties.

Wild Cards

Using Quotes
Words in double quotes " " are treated as a phrase. Conducting a search for "heat model" will return all results in which the exact phrase "heat model" is found, while "heat modeling" would NOT be included.
