This SAE Recommended Practice applies to those air brake system valves used to control the vehicle service brakes and test procedures defined by SAE J1859 to measure performance characteristics. This Recommended Practice adheres to standard industry practice of using English units for specifying valve characteristics.
The Truck and Bus Supply and Control Components Committee of the Truck and Bus Brake and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Steering Committee is responsible for developing, reviewing, and approving recommended practices, standards, and information reports related to air braked vehicles supply and components and their interfacing as utilized on trucks, tractor-trailers combinations and buses over 4,536 kilograms (10,000 lbs.) GVWR. The activities of this Committee include brake supply and control components and their interfacing, and is not, in any way, to duplicate efforts of any other Committees.
