Scope
This recommended practice contains dimensions and tolerances for outboard mounted brake drums and disc wheel hubs in the interface areas. The geometric features described in this document are shown at true position. This recommended practice is intended for outboard mounted brake drums and disc wheel hubs commonly used on class 7 and 8 commercial vehicles. Included are SAE J694 mounting systems II, III, IV, XIV, and X. Special and less common applications are not covered.
Rationale
This document is currently under a five year review. The scope of the document is being clarified to specify the exact SAE J694 Mounting systems included in the document. In addition, a paragraph has been added that clarifies the definition and recommended practice regarding scalloped hubs.
The objective of this document is to establish dimensional standardization within the interface areas of outboard mounted brake drums and hubs for disc wheels.
This recommended practice will define and document the dimensions and tolerances necessary to maintain interchangeability in the interface areas.
There is a need within the industry for a recommended dimensional standard, since without it, improper mating of outboard mounted drums may occur with hubs for disc wheels in the interface areas.

Issuing Committee
The responsibility of the Truck and Bus Wheel Committee of the Truck and Bus Brake and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Steering Committee is to initiate, develop, review and approve the recommended practices, standards, and information reports related to hubs, wheels and the wheel mounting systems of buses, trucks and tractor-trailer combinations intended for highway use. The Wheel Committee is constituted so as to be aware of other SAE wheel activity and to prevent duplication of effort.

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
