Vehicle Battery Standards Steering Committee
The Battery Standards Steering Committee reports to the Motor Vehicle Council. The Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to the field of vehicle battery technology, including both starter and traction batteries. Particular emphasis is currently being placed on advanced Hybrid and Electric Vehicle traction batteries. The following topics are within the scope of this committee's work: The Battery Standards Committee reports to the Motor Vehicle Council. The Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to the field of vehicle battery technology, including both starter and traction batteries. Particular emphasis is currently being placed on advanced Hybrid and Electric Vehicle traction batteries. The following topics are within the scope of this committee's work: • Creation and maintenance of standardized test procedures for all cell, batteries and battery systems targeted by SAE Battery Standards Committee • Creation and monitoring of recommended safety performance requirements to support all battery systems in all ground vehicles – both on road and off road. • Establishing and periodic updating of standardized nomenclature for use by the battery and vehicle systems committees domestically and globally • Establishing universal labeling criteria of all battery systems • Addressing common ground vehicle interface and serviceability requirements specifically related to batteries • Appropriate standardization of battery system features • Work conjointly with global governmental and enforcement agencies on best recommended environmental and transportation standards Participants in the SAE Battery Standards Committee include automotive OEMs, component suppliers, consulting firms, government, academia, and other interested parties.
