Felling Head Terminology and Nomenclature

This SAE Standard is intended to describe the basic types of felling heads, including those with bunching capabilities, that are attachments to a self-propelled machine. Only the major components that are necessary to describe the functions to the felling head, and to apply the principles of the recommended practice are included. Illustrations used are not intended to include all existing felling heads or to describe any particular manufacturer's variation.
The purpose of this document is to set forth accepted definitions for functions of tree felling heads and to classify and establish nomenclature for major components and parts peculiar to these machines.

MTC4 addresses standards related to machines, components, and systems specific to forestry machinery as described in ISO 6814. This committee reports to ConAg Council through the Machine Technical Steering Committee. ConAg Council covers machines described in SAE J1116 which includes machines defined in ISO 6165, ISO 6814, and ISO 22242, with regards to activities supporting; •Creating consensus SAE standards, recommended practices, and information reports •Harmonizing relevant SAE documents with ISO documents •Assisting the US with the creation and maintenance of ISO standards through US TAG ISO/TC 23/SC 15 - Machinery for forestry Participants in this committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and others across the construction and forestry industries.
