Scope
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) provides dimensions and procedures for a standardized test fixture used to evaluate the static performance of O-rings and other seal types in glands per AS4716 and AS5857.
Rationale
Continuing problems with seal leakage, especially at low temperatures, require a standardized method and tools for evaluating prospective solutions.

The AMS-CE Elastomers Committee maintains Aerospace Materials Specifications (AMS), Aerospace Recommended Practices (ARP), Aerospace Information Reports (AIR) and Aerospace Standards (AS) on elastomeric materials. AMS-CE, which reports to the Aerospace Materials Division, coordinates and maintains liaison with industry, government and other standardization groups on elastomeric materials. A significant part of this committee is concerned with elastomeric fluid sealing materials, their applications, material development, testing, quality, design parameters and design practices.
