Scope
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers high strength thin wall ratcheting box wrenches which possess the strength, clearances, and internal wrenching design so configured that, when mated with bihexagonal (12 point) fasteners conforming to the requirement of AS870 for inch sizes and ISO 4095 for metric sizes, they shall transmit torque to the fastener without bearing on the outer 5% of the fastener’s wrenching points.
Inclusion of dimensional data in this document is not intended to imply that all products described herein are stock production sizes. Consumers are requested to consult with manufacturers concerning lists of stock production sizes. The dimensional limits of box and combination wrench lengths have been established to provide configuration control for tool storage applications.
Rationale
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers reversible and nonreversible ratcheting wrenches for use in aerospace applications involving high torque, limited clearances, and generally clean conditions.

Issuing Committee
The SAE EG-1B Aerospace Hand Tool Committee addresses all facets of aerospace hand tools and tool kits in of support equipment-design, maintenance, and in-service experience. It focuses on support equipment and facilities related to gas turbine engine testing, balancing, engine accessory testing, inspection, packaging, handling, and transportability. High performance hand tools for aerospace applications are also addressed by EG-1B. The group is comprised of government, original equipment manufacturers, and users dedicated to creating, preparing and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards and requirements for aerospace propulsion system support equipment.

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
