Scope
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes the aerodynamic flow-off requirements for SAE AMS 1424 Type I and SAE AMS 1428 Type II, III and IV. Fluids used to deice and/or anti-ice:
-
a
Large transport type jet aircraft while on the ground where the takeoff rotation speeds generally exceed approximately 100 to 110 knots. (The procedure for this type of aircraft is referred to as the High Speed Ramp Tests).and/or
-
b
Commuter type aircraft while on the ground and when no compensating measures are taken in the aircraft takeoff procedure where the takeoff rotation speeds generally exceed approximately 60 knots. (The procedure for this type of aircraft is referred to as the Low Speed Ramp Tests.)
The objective of this standard is to ensure acceptable aerodynamic characteristics of the deicing/ anti-icing fluids as they flow off aircraft lifting and control surfaces during the takeoff ground acceleration and climb.

Issuing Committee
The SAE G-12 Aircraft Ground Deicing committee addresses all facets of aircraft ground deicing equipment¿design, maintenance, operation, and in-service experience. It provides a focal point for the related activities of the various specialty groups and committees dealing with aircraft ground deicing. The group is comprised of eight subcommittees dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for aircraft ground deicing systems. These subcommittees include:
G-12DF Deicing Facilities G-12HOT Hold-over Testing G-12M Methods G-12F Fluids G-12E Equipment G-12ID Ice Detection G-12T Training G-12FG Future Deicing Participants in the SAE G-12 committee include OEMs, suppliers, aircraft ground deicing equipment companies, consulting firms, government and others across the aerospace and defense industries.Reference
* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
