Scope
This document contains guidance for designers, specifiers, regulatory personnel, purchasers, managers, and others who specify or use optical simulations of aircraft lights. All aircraft lighting will be considered interior, flight deck, and exterior lighting. Guidance on standard methods of analysis and presentation of data will be provided. Although this document concentrates on lighting, many of the principles covered will be helpful in other types of optical simulation, such as for displays, non-visible radiation, etc.
Rationale
Nearly every aircraft light now developed is first simulated using optical software. This document will provide guidance on how to create useful, accurate optical simulations. Guidance on how to present and interpret the results of such simulations will also be provided.

A-20B Exterior Lighting Committee
The purpose of the A-20 Aircraft Lighting Committee is to provide a forum for the development of aerospace standards in aircraft lighting that will fulfill the needs and requirements of operation control and utility. The scope includes both interior and exterior lighting. A list of the technical reports developed by the A-20 Committee can be obtained by searching on 'aircraft lighting' and selecting 'standards', from the SAE Home Page. A-20 Standards

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
