Scope
This document recommends criteria for the design and installation of flight crew rest facilities (FCRF) on transport category aircraft when operations with an augmented flight crew are performed.
NOTE: Within this ARP, the term “must” will indicate items required for compliance with outside known government regulations, especially 14 CFR Part 117. “Shall” describes sections which are required if this ARP is used as a means of compliance. The term “should” will indicate optional requirements, preferences, and recommendations of the approving SAE committee.
Wherever noted and bracketed as [FAA] or [EASA], this document includes agency regulations for reference that are not otherwise evaluated herein.
Rationale
The Federal Aviation Administration enacted updated flight time and duty time regulations for flight crew members (14 CFR Part 117) effective January 4, 2014. The regulation defined three levels of in-flight rest facilities: Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3. The maximum allowable flight duty period limitations vary based on the FAA-approved class of the in-flight rest facility. Similarly, EASA enacted Commercial Specification - Flight Time Limitation (CS-FTL) regulations, also referenced in this ARP.

S-7 Flight Deck Handling Qualities Stds for Trans Aircraft
The SAE S-7 Committee was formed to fulfill a need for the air transport industry to monitor itself with respect to uniformity of cockpit design for air transport aircraft.
Standardization of the flight deck is becoming increasingly important to both operators and manufacturers. The objective is to design for the operational efficiencies necessary to maintain a competitive and viable air transportation industry. This must be accomplished while maintaining or improving the existing levels of operating efficiencies and safety. The S-7 Committees is committed to serving this purpose. This is an international committee of members representing major aircraft manufacturers, airlines from United States, Europe, and the Far East, as well as equipment designers, manufacturers, regulatory authorities, and other interested parties.Reference

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
