Rationale
MA2171 HAS BEEN REAFFIRMED TO COMPLY WITH THE SAE FIVE-YEAR REVIEW POLICY.
-
Length "L" is a four digit number of which the first three digits describe the hose assembly length in whole centimeters (cm), and the fourth digit, the fraction of a cm in millimeters (mm). Length "L" is measured from "face of seat" to "face of seat". For length increments and tolerances see Table 3.
-
A true circular cross section is not required through the fitting I.D. However, the applicable ball diameter listed in Table 1 shall pass through the end fitting after it is attached to the hose assembly.
-
Distance across corners of the coupling nut may exceed this dimension.
-
Standard coupling nuts shall be in accordance with MA2275 or MA2276 and mate with MA2273 fitting ends. Nonstandard coupling nuts may be used provided they are dimensionally and functionally equivalent and provided they cannot be removed from the fitting. Nonstandard nuts shall meet torque test requirements per MA2007.
-
Diameters are listed for clamp selection. Tubular sleeves may not be a perfect round and shall be measured with a diameter tape rule (often referred to as a pi-tape).
-
Tubular abrasion (TFE) sleeves shall have an I.D. no greater than hose O.D. + 1.27 mm. Axial movement of the sleeve installed on the hose shall not exceed 1.27 mm. Ends of the tubular sleeve shall be terminated with a length of MIL-I-23053/11 (FEP) class 1 or 2, color clear, per Table 5 and Figure 2.
-
Coil abrasion sleeves, when assembled on a straight hose, shall have an average gap between coils not exceeding 1.27 mm. Displacement of the coils of the sleeve, causing a greater gap, shall not be cause for rejection if the coils can be repositioned to meet the gap requirements. Ends of the coil sleeve shall be terminated with a length of heat shrinkable sleeving in accordance with Table 5 and Figure 2. Code "B" (nylon coil) abrasion sleeves shall be terminated with MIL-I-23053/5 class 1 or 3, color black. Code "L" (coil abrasion) sleeves shall be terminated with MIL-I-23053/12A, class 1, color transparent, PTFE. (Optional MIL-I-23053/11 (FEP) class 1 or 2, color clear.)
-
The Table 2 sleeve diameters for AS1072 sleeves apply when the sleeve is compressed, or clamped, to contact the hose. In this case, a wrinkle may occur over approximately 10% of the sleeve circumference.
-
The cut ends of the firesleeve shall be coated with RTV silicone rubber, prior to installation, to prevent wicking of the fluids. The firesleeve ends shall be secured to the hose assembly end fittings with corrosion resistant steel bands. After installation, cracks or voids in the firesleeve that expose the fiberglass shall be coated with RTV silicone rubber.
-
Integral abrasion sleeve shall form an integral, permanent part of the hose and shall terminate a maximum of 3.0 mm from the end of the collars.
-
FEP and polyolefin shrink abrasion sleeves shall be shrunk to a snug fit over the hose and end fitting collars.
HOSE SIZE LENGTH (mm) DN 06 50.0 ± 6 DN 10 DN 12 63.5 ± 6 DN 16 DN 20 76.0 ± 6 DN 25 TABLE 5 -
Add "AS1055 type IIb class B-S/P" to identification marking to show level of confidence, "fire proof" (15 min), with AS1055.
-
The ends of the integral firesleeve shall be covered with a length of silicone sleeve extending over the end fitting socket.

Issuing Committee
G-3, Aerospace Couplings, Fittings, Hose, Tubing Assemblies
This Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining standards for design, test, and procurement of fluid systems part standards to improve reliability and economy. Their primary focus is on AS standards development and support of military standards. The Committee also develops ISO standards in a Subcommittee Advisory Group (SCAG) to ISO/TC 20/SC 10, and SAE-MA derivatives thereof.
Structure: SAE G-3 -- Parent committee SAE G-3A -- Aerospace Couplings Subcommittee SAE G-3B -- Aerospace Fittings Subcommittee SAE G-3D -- Aerospace Hose Subcommittee SAE G-3E - Aerospace Tubing Assemblies Subcommittee U.S. SCAG to ISO/TC 20/SC 10 -- ISO standards Major projects: Support of Military Standards Reform Support of military standard conversions to MIL-PERF and MIL-DTL. Development of AS replacements for military standards designated for conversion. Establish document to list G-3 accepted replacements for replaced part standards and military back-up specifications. Development of PRI QML/QPL Development of Performance Review Institute (PRI) process for approval and surveillance of manufacturers (Qualified Manufacturer List, QML) and for approval of standard parts as qualified for use (Qualified Parts List, QPL). Development of ISO Standards, Imperial Units ISO/TC 20/SC 10 standards have typically been developed in SI units. The ISO has approved development of inch-based ISO standards to support commercial aviation. Basic design, test, and procurement specifications will be selected from military standards that are to be converted to Non-Government standard (NGS) and developed as ISO standards.Reference

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
