This document will apply to the most common applications of electric motors, used for activating all-wheel drive (AWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) disconnect systems as used in passenger (car and light truck) vehicles. The standard will provide consistent definition, terminology, tests, and reporting methods.
Rationale
This SAE Recommended Practice covers electric motors used for activating/modulating driveline disconnects and torque transfer devices on passenger (car and light truck) vehicles. This document provides the driveline industry with a common terminology and best practices for the most common types of electric motors, used in all-wheel drive (AWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles where an electric motor may be used for drive line activation.
The Drivetrain Standards Committee reports to the Powertrain Systems Group of the Motor Vehicle Council. The Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to drivetrain components and drivetrain systems excluding powerplant and transmission. The committee will direct its attention to passenger cars and trucks and focus on educating and enlightening the technical community about significant aspects of drivetrain components and systems. Participants in the SAE Drivetrain Standards Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and other interested parties.

redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.

Wild Cards
Using the asterisk, ( * ) allows you to search for a partial word. For example, entering a keyword search of aero* will search for any word beginning with aero.
Using the question mark, ( ? ) allows you to search for a word with a single character wildcard. For example, searching for t?re would match both tire and tyre
Using Quotes
Words in double quotes " " are treated as a phrase. Conducting a search for "heat model" will return all results in which the exact phrase "heat model" is found, while "heat modeling" would NOT be included.
A term combined with a phrase will be joined with an OR operator.
