Following the workshop SAE International partnered with the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment (MDNRE) and the Michigan Green Chemistry Roundtable, SAE’s MotorVehicle Council established the Green Technology Systems Group (GTSG). The focus of the GTSGis to serve as a guiding body for consensus standards development for environmental sustainabilityissues in the automotive sector. The Workshop Steering Committee recommended a missionstatement for these initial SAE activities:“To become a network of green innovation for the global automotive stakeholders.”The Green Technology Systems Group will review existing standards and begin discussing newstandards that need to be created for the automotive industry. Task forces will be created withexperts for the specific task at hand. Once the GTSG drafts a document, it will follow SAE’sconsensus based two-‐level balloting for approval. After approval of the document, it can then proceedto publication and becomes a new industry standard.
