Scope
This SAE Recommended Practice is intended to establish uniform procedures for developing specifications for automotive thermoplastics. It is intended for use by automotive companies and their suppliers of molded and/ or fabricated parts from thermoplastic materials.
Rationale
This document was developed to standardize plastic testing procedures between automotive OEM's for the purpose of reducing testing costs by allowing similar certification packages. The procedures are now considered a stable technology which is not dynamic in nature and not likely to change in the foreseeable future.

Issuing Committee
The Plastics Committee applies the knowledge and experience of its volunteer membership to develop and maintain SAE Standards, Recommended Practices and Information Reports for the automotive, plastics and other related industries. The intent of these documents is to satisfy the needs of users, suppliers and vendors that are affected by these standards. Participants in the SAE Plastics Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government and other interested parties, and their involvement is critical in the development and maintenance of each document.
