Issuing Committee
Committee on Automotive Rubber Specs
The Committee on Automotive Rubber Specifications (C.A.R.S.) develops and maintains SAE Standards, Recommended Practices and Information Reports relating to the development of thermoset and thermoplastic elastomer specifications for use in automotive and related industries. The J200 HK Table Task Force is updating the classification and characterization of fluorocarbon elastomers (FKM), which will make the table more useful to users of this family of elastomers. The Engine Oil Comp. with Rubber Gaskets and Seals is working on standard reference elastomers to be used in evaluation of current and future engine oils. These standards can be used for comparative studies, to determine the possible deleterious effects of oil technology changes on elastomers used in automotive and related applications. Participants in the SAE Committee on Automotive Rubber Specifications include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government and other interested parties.
