Scope
These specifications cover molded cups 51 mm (2 in) in diameter and under, compounded from high temperature resistant rubber for use in hydraulic actuating cylinders employing motor vehicle brake fluid conforming to the requirements specified in SAE J1703 and SAE J1705.
These specifications cover the performance tests of hydraulic brake cups under specified conditions and do not include requirements relating to chemical composition, tensile strength, and elongation of the rubber compound.
Disc brake seals are not covered by this document.
Rationale
The technical report covers technology, products, or processes which are mature and not likely to change in the foreseeable future.

Hydraulic Brake Components Standards Committee
Develop, improve, upgrade and/or maintain uniform and comprehensive standards, recommended practices, information reports and/or requirements that represent and permit uniform testing for hydraulic brake actuation components and systems. They should enhance development, evaluation, and optimization with accelerated testing methods that will provide needed products which maximize safety. They shall provide cost-effective components with essential quality, performance, and longevity for brake and interrelated system operation that will encompass the global automotive brake industry.

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A redline comparison of the current version against a revision is accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
