This SAE Standard specifies the general characteristics of piston rings and individual dimensional criteria, which are specified as appropriate in the documents in Section 2. This document also provides a system for coding, designation, and marking of piston rings. This document applies to the manufacture of piston rings up to and including 200 mm diameter for reciprocating internal combustion engines. It also applies to piston rings for compressors working under similar conditions.
Rationale
SAE J1591 is being discontinued because the content of this standard is also contained in ISO 6621-4. Therefore, to eliminate duplication and confusion in coordinating the standards between ISO and SAE, this document will be discontinued. The SAE Piston and Ring Standards committee will now continue to support ISO in updating the standards as appropriate.
The Piston and Ring Standards Committee reports to the Powertrain Systems Group of the Motor Vehicle Council. The Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to piston and ring components used in gasoline and diesel engines. The committee¿s objectives are to ensure that current engineering practice is reflected in the documents and identify new work items where standardization can serve to advance manufacturing, design or application. The committee serves as the U.S. delegate on the ISO/TC22/WG1, Piston Ring Standards Working Group. Participants in the SAE Piston and Ring Standards Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and other interested parties.

Using Quotes
Words in double quotes " " are treated as a phrase. Conducting a search for "heat model" will return all results in which the exact phrase "heat model" is found, while "heat modeling" would NOT be included.
A term combined with a phrase will be joined with an OR operator.
