Scope
The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to establish minimum performance and user information requirements for battery booster cable sets. Such sets may be used to provide a temporary connection of a surface vehicle battery to another similar battery to provide emergency power when required. This recommended practice DOES NOT ENDORSE NOR RECOMMEND the potentially hazardous procedure of jump starting a vehicle.

The scope of the Electrical Distribution Systems Steering Committee includes the development and maintenance of standards and recommended practices for automotive power and signal distribution systems used in passenger cars and light duty trucks. The scope includes standards for wiring systems, connection systems, cable, and harness coverings. Standards are developed for all voltage ratings up to but not including ignition cable assemblies and components. The scope does not include circuit protection or switching devices.
