Sound Level Technical Steering Committee

The Sound Level Technical Committee (SLTC) is a part of the Construction, Agriculture, and Off-Road Machinery (ConAg) Council. The SLTC is responsible for standards and related documents that pertain to sound emission and its measurement for off-road machinery covering earthmoving, agricultural, forestry, and mining. The committee develops SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports in accordance with the SAE Technical Standards Board (TSB) Rules and Regulations. These documents prescribe measurement procedures for the exterior and operator station sound emission or attenuation characteristics of machine components on above-mentioned machinery. The SLTC maintains a liaison with the SAE Vehicle Sound Level Committee, SAE Specialized Vehicle and Equipment Sound Level Committee, and other SAE technical committees as necessary. The committee also maintains liaison with the national and international activities of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) TC127, Earthmoving Machinery, and undertakes the development of standards pertaining to the above-mentioned specific categories of off-road machinery sound emission. The SLTC is comprised of two subcommittees dedicated to creating, preparing and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for agricultural tractors. These subcommittees include: SLTC SC1 Earth Moving Machinery Sound Level SLTC SC2 Back-up and Forward Warning Alarm Participants in the SAE Sound Level Technical Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and others across the construction and agriculture industries.
