Side stands and center stands are designed to support stationary two-wheel motorcycles. This SAE Standard establishes procedures for determining parking surface loading and stability limits as follows:

The footprint pressure exerted on a horizontal parking surface by the stand.
b
The tilt angle of the parking surface at which tip-over occurs.
c
The tilt angle of the parking surface at which roll-off occurs.
Rationale
This document is being revised to allow for alternative methods for determination of contact pressure and to provide harmonization of definitions within documents prepared by the SAE Motorcycle Technical Steering Committee. In addition, the classification is being changed from Recommended Practice to Standard.
The Motorcycle Technical Steering Committee develops and maintains SAE Standards, Recommended Practices and Information Reports related to improving and promoting the design, construction, and maintenance of motorcycles and related vehicles. The committee maintains liaison with the International Standards Organization (ISO) and, as necessary, with organizations such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC), SAE-related committees and other organizations. Participants in the SAE Motorcycle Technical Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government and other interested parties.
