Packaging, comfort, ‘premiumness,’ and quality are keywords in the vocabulary of car interior designers, but significant changes to interior structures could lead to a design revolution.

The world of car interior design and technology may have reached a period of discontinuity. It is placed between a period of systems integration-for safety and comfort-and a move into higher quality, a softening of the cabin's ambience, a growing emphasis on the availability of a widening portfolio of materials, and the potential of significant structural changes.

“The more bulk out of the interior in terms of infrastructure-the center console and tunnels-the better,” said Land Rover Design Director Gerry McGovern.
