Infotainment and other new functions spark growth in the automotive chip applications.

Digital signal processing (DSP) chips have seen huge usage in cell phones and consumer products such as audio-visual equipment. As autos offer more of these functions, engineers are making more use of DSP technology.

DSPs are entering the vehicle in growing numbers as more infotainment capabilities see acceptance in the automotive arena. The chips, which can handle mathematical functions much faster than conventional microcontrollers, are also making inroads into new applications such as motor control.
