Scope
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers the design, fabrication, performance, and testing requirements for general-purpose, base-restrained, containers requiring airworthiness approval for installation/use in aircraft lower deck compartments. See 10.1 and 10.2.
Rationale
This Standard specifies the design criteria and testing methods applicable to certified base-restrained containers approved for use exclusively in lower-deck compartments of civil transport aircraft.
Throughout this Standard, the minimum essential criteria are identified by use of the key word “shall.” Recommended criteria are identified by use of the key word “should” and, while not mandatory, are considered to be of primary importance in providing safe containers. Deviation from recommended criteria should only occur after careful consideration, extensive testing and thorough service evaluations have shown alternate methods to be satisfactory.

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards
listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A
redline comparison of the current version against a revision is
accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and
then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist
for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning
with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
