Scope
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies a data communications layer for the transport of messages defined by the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) or other Software Defined Protocols (SDP). This Transport Specification defines the formats and protocols used for communication between compliant entities for all supported link-layer protocols and media. Although JAUS is the SDP used as the example implemented throughout this document, AS5669 can be used for any SDP that meets the required capabilities.
A Software Defined Protocol is defined as an application data interface for communicating between software elements. The SDP is agnostic of the underlying communications protocol and in fact communicates in much the same manner regardless if the communicating entities are collocated in the same memory space or separated by a satellite link.
Rationale
Revision A of the AS5669 JAUS Transport Specification changes the document scope from that of a transport specification specifically for JAUS to that of a transport specification capable of message transport for any Software Defined Protocol (SDP) that supports individual entity addressing and other common protocol mechanisms. JAUS messages are used as an example SDP, and can be properly transported by AS5669.

Issuing Committee
AS-4JAUS Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems Committee
The AS-4JAUS Technical Committee supports the charter of AS-4 (Unmanned Systems) by developing standards enabling external and internal interoperability between Unmanned Systems and their subsystems and payloads. JAUS employs a service oriented architecture approach, representing unmanned system capabilities as defined services with defined message-based interfaces. The standardization of these service and interface definitions facilitates the development of modular systems with increased interoperability; the use of standard services and their interfaces also facilitates rapid technology insertion.

* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A redline comparison of the current version against a revision is accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
