This document was developed by the SAE AS-1B5 CLARA Task Group to explain and document background information and decisions with associated rationale made in development of the CLARA Interface Control Document (ICD), AIR5682. This rationale document is published separately to preserve information that is not required or provided in the ICD but may be important to users.
Rationale
In response to a U.S. Air Force Executive Weapon Systems Review (EWSR) Task Group (TG) charter, SAE International Common Launch Acceptability Region (LAR) Approach (CLARA) TG produced an Interface Control Document (ICD). The EWSR recognized the expensive nature of the present multiple-LAR development approaches and sought help from the SAE to standardize and document a new common LAR approach that is less expensive and time consuming. The EWSR TG recommended key characteristics upon which to base the new approach. This Rationale Document describes the thoughts and basis behind the decisions and data generated and documented by the SAE AS-1B5 CLARA Task Group in the creation of the CLARA ICD.
The SAE AS-1 Aircraft Systems & Systems Integration committee addresses all facets of aircraft avionics systems design, maintenance, and in-service experience. It reviews and develops specifications for stores interface, validation requirements, systems integration, mission store validation plans and media terminal design. Also addressed are system test requirements, architecture, security and 1553 data bus standards. The group is comprised of three subcommittees dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for aircraft avionics systems. These subcommittees include:
AS-1A Avionics Networks
AS-1B Aircraft-Store Integration
AS-1C Avionic Subsystems
Participants in the SAE AS-1 committee include OEMs, suppliers, aircraft avionics equipment companies, consulting firms, government and others across the aerospace and defense industries.

Wild Cards

Using Quotes
Words in double quotes " " are treated as a phrase. Conducting a search for "heat model" will return all results in which the exact phrase "heat model" is found, while "heat modeling" would NOT be included.
A term combined with a phrase will be joined with an OR operator.
Searching for Standards
When searching for a standard please use the entire Document Number assigned, which includes the abbreviation. A space can be used, or omitted between the abbreviation and number.
