Abstract
In the field of heavy-duty turbocharged diesel engines, it is difficult to apply exhaust gas recirculation for reduction of NOx. Usually in this field, boost pressure is higher than exhaust pressure because of higher turbocharger efficiency. In order to solve this problem, the new turbocharger, which has a port for exhaust gas at compressor side, was developed. This paper describes the characteristics of pressure at compressor outlet, diffuser and turbine inlet. Further, the results of JIS-13 mode test showed about 26% reduction of NOx with almost the same fuel consumption level.
