A Method for Obtaining a Safety and Supervision Concept for Safety Critical Systems in Modern Vehicles

The increasing function extension of brake systems requires driver-independent and wheel-selective brake intervention in future automotive systems. This can be realized by decentralized electromechanical wheel brake modules. Such Brake-by-Wire systems are power brake systems where the electromechanical brake pedal (EMP) is mechanically decoupled from the wheel brakes. The sensor information from the EMP, which is fed forward to the superset brake management, corresponds to the driver''s brake command.
The main focus of this work is on the presentation of a method to develop a safety and supervision concept of this safety critical system for detecting the driver''s brake intention.
