Abstract
This paper deals with the implications of habitat design for space, with respect to the future design of cities on Earth.
A group of students of architecture has studied the design of habitats for Mars, and for the transit to Mars, at JSC in Houston, and after that designed interventions in conventional housing areas in Malmö, Sweden.
The findings are that the design process developed by NASA leads to unconventional proposals, when applied to Earth habitats, and that many of the Life Support Systems designed for space would lead to more ecological cities, if applied on Earth.
