Abstract
A short history of the development and application of the spark ignition two stroke cycle and four stroke cycle engine to various small powerplant applications is discussed.
The paper then goes on to give an answer as to whether or not the two stroke cycle engine can indeed survive considering modern day requirements of exhaust emissions.
