A new method for detecting underinflated tires of a vehicle is proposed. In this method, the variation of the tire stiffness which depends on the pressure is estimated by using the disturbance observer. This method can be realized in lower cost because it uses wheel speed sensors already provided for ABS (anti-lock brake system), and also can detect in every underinflation situation such as a puncture and natural leaks. The monitor is installed on the vehicle and its performance is confirmed by experiments.
