Toyota has developed the system for detecting the underinflated tires of vehicle and warning, using the signal of wheel speed sensor. Focusing the relationship with tire pressure and tire torsional stiffness, the system adopted a new method which estimated the stiffness by disturbance observer. It is able to detect no only underinflated tires such as a puncture but also coinstantaneous natural leaks. It is realized in low cost only adding the function on the ABS (Anti-lock Brake System).
This paper described the summary of application and the study of practical use.
