New System Tachograph Generation With Intelligent Chip Card
Published June 05, 1997 by Verlag Des Verein Deutscher Ingenieure GmbH in Germany
VDO Kienzle has developed a new tachograph generation with separate indicating and recording units in radio recess format. The new recording equipment, based on the legislative initiative of the EU Commission, is a high-performance on-board computer incorporating future-oriented technical solutions. According to the plans of the European Union, the new system is supposed to electronically store driver- and vehicle-specific data on an intelligent chip acard, in addition to the record sheet for closer observance of the existing regulations concerning driving times, working times and rest periods. The standardized driver card stores all these periods over 28 working days. It is made out to the driver and shows his photo as well as his signature.
